Murray’s Work within the Community

Murray’s Work within the Community

We support a wide variety of community events in the villages and towns surrounding our three offices

Giving Back

At Murrays we enjoy working with people as much as working with property and giving back to the local community is core to our ethos. We sponsor numerous local charities and support events across the region, giving us a wonderful insight into the villages and communities we work within.

We support a wide variety of events in the villages and towns surrounding our three offices, from Cow Hunts, country fayres and village school events to Gold Sponsor of Painswick’s local cinema, Wick Flix, and everything in between!

We continually review our sponsorship programme to ensure we spread our support as far as possible but we also have long-term alliances with several local charities. One such charity is Stroud based, The Nelson Trust.

Cotswold Playhouse

Murrays’ Directors, Richard and James, are both actively involved in amateur dramatics. Richard frequently plays a starring role in local plays and James often performs singing recitals.

It will come as no great surprise therefore to learn that Murrays has supported Stroud’s fantastic community theatre, The Cotswold Playhouse, for well over two decades. Tucked away at the top of Stroud on Parliament Street, the theatre is owned by The Cotswold Players, a volunteer-run registered charity.

Our support goes well beyond the financial aspect. We routinely promote performances across our social media channels and the team regularly attend shows. Murrays’ Senior Director, Richard Murray also frequently plays a leading role in many of the performances.

The Playhouse has a full calendar of events, often performing several plays and musicals a month, from the light-hearted to deeply thought-provoking.

With a pool of exceptionally talented actors and actresses, a visit to the Cotswold Playhouse comes way up on our recommended list of places to visit in the local area.

Murrays & The Nelson Trust

The Nelson Trust began in 1985 when Mary and Roy Brash purchased the former ‘Nelson Inn’ near Stroud in Gloucestershire to establish one of the UK’s first abstinence-based residential treatment centres.

Forty years on and the Trust offers rehabilitation and support services spanning across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol, and Wales, offering hope and long-term recovery to lives affected by substance use and multiple disadvantages.

One particular focus of the charity is Women’s Community Services and The Nelson Trust was responsible for establishing a ‘first-of-its-kind’ Women’s Centre inside HMP Eastwood Park providing gender responsive and holistic support for women and their families.

Our support of The Nelson Trust is something we take great pride in and our involvement has grown over the years to such an extent that Murrays’ Director, James, is now a trustee.

We offer funding and promotional support to a host of fundraising events, working together with The Nelson Trust support team to host numerous events including golf days, music recitals and summer soirees.

If you take a look at the blog on our website, you will see some of the fabulous photographs from our shared events which together have raised tens of thousands of pounds for this amazing local charity.  The Summer Soiree of 2025 hosted at Woodchester Mansion raised more than £7,500 for example and the Clare Hammond piano recital of 2023 in excess of £8,000, so these events really do make a difference.
