DESCRIPTION
Wool Cottage offers the rare opportunity to purchase a truly magical home tucked away in the heart of Painswick. In the ownership of the same family for over 30 years, the cottage is an absolute historic gem. As soon as you lift the latch on the street side gate, it is like stepping inside a magical and secret haven. An enclosed courtyard leads to the entrance porch, with cloakroom and wonderful historic loo, which sets the tone for the deep sense of history that flows throughout the entire home.

The porch opens into a delightful dining room with aged flagstone floor, stunning fireplace with stone surround and wonderful aged beams. The kitchen leads off the dining room with fitted units and a window with views over the garden. A beautiful aged staircase winds its way to a charming first floor sitting room with fabulous views to the historic St Marys Church with its infamous 100 yew trees. There is a further working fireplace at this level and beautiful aged floor boards. Steps lead down to a first floor bedroom with two single beds and lovely views towards the church and the Cotswold hills beyond. A further set of stairs, even more stunning in their historic beauty than the first set, leads to the top floor where there is another bedroom with two single beds and lovely old beams under the eaves. There is also a bathroom with bath and skylight window. There is ample storage on all levels, with under and over stairs storage cupboards.

The real jewel in this English country cottage however, is its enclosed garden, which has all the ingredients of the perfect secret garden. Totally enclosed and hidden away, there is a large south westerly patio area, delightful box topiary hedging and good sized storage shed.

DIRECTIONS
From our Painswick office, head along Victoria Street towards the centre of the village and The Wool Cottage will be found on the left hand side, shortly after the turning to George Court, recognised via its white gate and walled boundary with hedge.

LOCATION
Wool Cottage is Victoria Street's best kept secret. In the heart of the village, this idyllic little street is lined with historic properties. Often referred to as the Queen of the Cotswolds, Painswick has a tremendous sense of community spirit. Wool Cottage is within easy walking distance of the many local amenities, including two popular pubs, a bijou hotel and small local restaurant and also a newly opened cafe and arts shop. There is a well stocked village shop a few minutes walk from the property, as well as a chemist and even a popular fabric shop.

One of the many attractions to the area are the excellent schools, with grammar schools in Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham, as well as many popular schools in the private sector. The village is very popular with tourists and is well known for the beautiful Rococco Gardens and also its Beacon, a huge expanse of common land offering a wonderful source of walks and far reaching views to the Malvern Hills and also host to a popular golf course.

Well placed for commuting, Painswick is circa 90 minutes to London by train, from nearby Stroud mainline station and approximately 20 minutes drive to Cheltenham and Gloucester. The M5 motorway is also within easy reach, for commuting to Bristol and the Midlands.
