Slad and its associated valley would always have been a special place to live even without its association with Laurie Lee. A glorious confluence of colour at different times of the year with''big' skies above, it is little wonder that growing up there, provided inspiration to the well loved poet and author. Recreation Cottage Is close to his childhood home, set below the road which passes through the village and with lovely views out across the valley and within easy walking distance of the village pub - The Woolpack, his 'local'. Stroud immediately to the south of Slad is on the main line up to London
(about 90 minutes), has a Waitrose superstore, three other supermarkets and a multiplex cinema. Cheltenham is also within easy reach with its excellent shopping, numerous Arts Festivals and famous National Hunt racecourse. The journey to London by car is normally under two hours with the option of the M40 or M4 motorways while junction 11a of the M5 motorway is about 15 minutes away. There are glorious walks in the surrounding countryside and the testing hills are popular with cyclists, while there is a choice of challenging golf courses including that at nearby Painswick.

Recreation Cottage has mains water and electricity connected. Italian 'Klover' wood pellet-burning stove for central heating. Private drainage to a shared septic tank.
The former coach house and workshop has air sourced heating and air conditioning, a rainwater harvesting system, mains electricity and a 'Separett' non-water composting WC.

DIRECTIONS
The property is most easily located by leaving Stroud on the Slad Road, B4070, in the directionof Slad and Birdlip. Continue through the village of Slad passing both the Woolpack public house and Recreation Cottage is about 200 yards further on, on the right,immediately before the turning to Steanbridge Lane. For an Initial visit park here and walk back to the cottage.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Recreation Cottage is Listed Grade II and within the Cotswold Area of Official Natural Beauty. There is no direct vehicular access to the property. The Workshop/Garage is on the opposite side of the road.
