LOCATION
The village of Slimbridge sits on predominantly level lands to the south-west of Stroud within the Severn Vale. The village has a strong sense of community spirit, with a popular primary school, village hall and local church. The surrounding countryside is a great source of country walks including the tow-path along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Local attractions include the Wildfowl and Wetlands trust, founded by Sir Peter Scott, Berkeley Castle, and Cattle Country Adventure Park. The nearby village of Cam offers a range of facilities and the market town of Dursley (approximately 4 miles) has a more extensive range of amenities including supermarkets, independent shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. The popular ‘Stinchcombe Hill’ golf course is within easy reach.
One of the key draws to the area is the excellent choice of schools in both the state and private sector. Wycliffe College in Stonehouse, is less than 15 minutes drive and there are a number of excellent schools in Cheltenham, including Cheltenham College and Cheltenham Ladies. There are also a number of sought after grammar schools in nearby Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham.
The property is ideally located for the M5/M4 corridor and the A38 with Cam railway station just a couple of miles away offering regular access to Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bristol. The towns of Stroud and Stonehouse are the nearest stations for direct access to London Paddington.
DIRECTIONS
From Stroud, take the A419 Caincross Road west out of Stroud and at the roundabout take the 1st left. Continue straight over the roundabout by Sainsbury's and take the second exit onto the bypass. At the end of the bypass, bear left onto the Bristol Road and continue towards the motorway (M5); cross over the motorway and at the roundabout, turn left onto the A38. Follow the A38 for approximately 3.5 miles turning right at the roundabout signposted to Slimbridge, into St John's Road; continue for a short distance before turning left in to Moorend Lane. The property can be found approximately half a mile along the lane on the right hand side.
DESCRIPTION
Beech House is a superbly proportioned country home, beautifully laid out, with an abundance of natural light and a handsome facade. The property has been the subject of a total renovation by the current owner, to create a home that seamlessly blends modern day living, whilst remaining sympathetic to the rich history held within its walls. The Grade II listed former farmhouse dates back to the 17th Century with the front of the house belonging to the Tudor era and a rear Georgian section.
A spacious tessellated tiled reception hall sets the tone to this fabulous home, which is both welcoming and impressive, in equal measure. The reception rooms are beautifully proportioned and provide ample living and entertaining space. High ceilings create a wonderful sense of space and large windows allow for plentiful natural light. A host of period features remain throughout the house, including original shutters, stripped and sandblasted floors and beams, original panelling and stunning flagstone floors. Bespoke stone fireplaces by Farmington add a sympathetically designed modern addition to the dining and reception rooms.
Overlooking the garden, the kitchen is clearly the heart of the home and provides an ideal space for relaxed dining with friends or cosy family suppers. Designed by Stonehouse Kitchens, the room benefits from a large centre island with seating and ample preparation and storage space, together with space for a large dining table. For more formal entertaining, the dining room with woodburning stove, offers an ideal space for cosy winter suppers with friends. A large boot room and utility leads off the kitchen, with original water pump still in place. A games room and home office, complete the ground floor.
The first floor is accessed via two separate staircases, one leading off the rear hall and the main staircase leading off the reception hall. Four good sized double bedrooms, three with en-suite and the principal with walk-in dressing room and 'statement' en-suite with freestanding copper bath, are located on the first floor. A family bathroom is also located at this level. Two further en-suite bedrooms are located on the second floor, one with walk-in dressing room, plus a studio/bedroom seven.
The grounds extend to circa three quarters of an acre of beautifully landscaped garden, with well-stocked borders, seating areas and a swimming pool with pump house and large surrounding patio area, ideal for pool parties and alfresco entertaining. Redbrick outbuildings belonging to the original farm, comprise two spacious store rooms (one of which is currently used as a rustic gym), log store and workshop. Ample gravel parking is located to the front of the house, accessed via a five-bar gate.
